Our next General Membership meeting will be October10th at the Lindale Middle School Media Center at 7:30 p.m. Our speakers will be State Delegate Ted Sophocleus and Delegate Pamela Beidle to tell us about the functions of the state legislature and give us tips on how to influence new legislation.
CENTENNIAL CELEBRATION
The Centennial Celebration Committee is well under way for our celebration in 2008. The special events will include dedication of the Historic District, Historic House Tour, Sock Hop, Treasure Hunt, Gala, and several others. The dates and times will appear in The Monitor at a later issue. You will also be seeing some banners in the community informing people of our 100th birthday. The honorary mayor for this coming year is Skip Booth, a very deserving person. Skip writes the Vignettes for the LSIA and segments appear in each issue of our newsletters, The Monitor, and then are combined at the end of the season into small books. We have published four volumes so far and look forward to seeing more articles in the future. Skip has been working on a book of historic stories about the people and the community of Linthicum which will be sold during our Centennial Celebration year.
COMMUNITY FAIR
This issue gets printed before the Community Fair but I feel confident that if you didn’t go to it you missed out on some real fun. A lot of work goes into this function by a lot of people. Their effort is given free to help a deserving charity in Anne Arundel County. Donations are always needed all year long at the North County Outreach Network (NCEON) so if you didn’t come to the fair you can still make a donation.
COMMUNITY CLEANUP
It is fall again and time to rake leaves. There are two clean up dates scheduled for the Linthicum Park, October 27th and November 10th. Please bring a rake and gloves. Light refreshments will be provided. We will start at 10:00 A.M. and go until all of the leaves are gone! No, we stop at noon. Your help in keeping the park looking nice is greatly appreciated.
LAUREL ROAD DEVELOPMENT
There was a meeting with Ameri-Star Homes on Monday night September 24th to advise the neighbors within 175 feet of the proposed Laurel Road development. They plan to build 11 homes on the property.
PROPOSED HOTEL EXPANSION
There is a bill going to the County Council (Bill 69-07) which would change the W2 zone to allow up to 75,000 sq. ft. for hotels in place of the current 25,000 sq. ft. You can see this proposal on the county web site www.aacounty.org. You should write a letter to county councilman Daryl Jones at A.A.County Council P.O. Box 2700 Annapolis, Md. 21401 to let him know what you, as a resident who is affected by this change, feel so that he can make a more enlightened vote when the bill comes up for a vote. There is also a reduction in the current 50 ft. buffer requirement in this same bill. That buffer has never seemed to be enough when your property is adjacent to the new commercial development being put up. You may also read the article in the Anne Arundel section of the Sunday September 23rd issue of The Sun. Most of the county’s W2 zoned property is located near BWI Airport, our back yard. I will send a letter for the LSIA to object to the increased sq. footage and in particular the reduction of the 50 ft. buffer.
PLEASE STRESS THAT DOG OWNERS NEED TO HAVE ID TAGS ON THEIR ANIMALS. IN 6 WKS, I'VE HAD 2 DOGS SHOW UP IN MY YARD WITH NO TAGS AND NO WAY OF KNOWING WHO THE PARENTS ARE. I WANTED TO LET THE FRANTIC PARENTS KNOW WHERE THEIR PET WAS. I KNOW HOW SCARED THE ANIMALS WERE TOO. MY DOG WEARS A TAG WITH HER NAME, ADDRESS AND PHONE #. IF SHE EVER GOT AWAY ANYONE FINDING HER WOULD KNOW WHO TO CALL. EVEN THE MOST SECURE DOG CAN STILL GET WAY. PLEASE TELL DOG OWNERS TO PUT ID TAGS ON THEIR COLLAR. THANKS, TERRY
