An amendment in County Council Bill 69-07, which would have expanded the usable footprint of hotels in areas zoned W-2, Light Industrial Districts, from 25,000 feet to 75,000 feet, was defeated in County Council Oct. 1 by a vote of 3-3. (County Council bills must have a majority to pass and one council member was absent on the night of the vote) This measure could have had a harmful impact on Linthicum and other communities in Anne Arundel's "hotel alley" by opening the door to much larger hotels than are currently permitted, including hotels that might have facilitated water parks.
