President's Message
Happy Summer, Everyone! As everyone looks forward to the warmer weather, end of the school year, and outdoor fun, we wanted to remind our membership that Wednesday, June 10 will be the last LSIA meeting before the summer break. We will resume our monthly meetings in September.
At our May meeting, we hosted a candidate forum for candidates for US Congress and state offices. Each candidate presented their platform and answered questions submitted by the audience. It was a well-attended and informative event. Our June 10 meeting will feature our second candidate forum. We’ll hear from candidates running for County Executive, County Council, State’s Attorney, Judge of the Circuit Court, Clerk of the Circuit Court, Register of Wills, and Sheriff. The meeting is open to the public and all are encouraged to attend. Don't forget to vote in the upcoming primary on June 23!
We would like to remind members that the Maryland Department of Agriculture’s Mosquito Control Program will implement its spraying protocol the week of June 5. We have included information about the program and encourage you to review it, if you haven’t already. Residents who wish to opt out of mosquito spraying must complete a Request for Exemption. Residents are also encouraged to review the MDA’s Homeowner Tips for Preventing Breeding Sites.
This will be our last issue of the Monitor until the fall. Until then, we wish everyone a fun and exciting summer!
-Cara Morris LSIA President

America will celebrate its 250th Independence Day on July 4, 2026, ushering in a historic year of national festivities and commemorative programs. The United States’ 250th anniversary, its Semiquincentennial, honors the moment in 1776 when the Thirteen Colonies declared independence from Britain. The Declaration of Independence, drafted primarily by Thomas Jefferson, was issued on July 4th following Congress’s adoption of the Lee Resolution two days earlier in Philadelphia. This milestone joins a lineage of major national commemorations, from the 1876 centennial to the 1926 sesquicentennial and the 1976 bicentennial. Below are a few family fun events to spark the patriotic spirit that will shape the generations to come:
